University of Freiburg

The University of Freiburg (UFR) stands for innovation, curiosity and excellent research – and for a genuine entrepreneurial spirit. Around 24,500 people are currently studying at the University of Freiburg. With its eleven faculties, some 240 degree programmes, 453 full professorships and 28 assistant professorships, the university offers a broad, interdisciplinary spectrum of high-quality research – it is one of Europe’s leading research universities – and teaching.

What defines us?

Deeply rooted locally, yet connected across Europe and the world. The close relationship between the city and the university has a long tradition. The university’s buildings shape the cityscape; its initiatives in sustainability, health and culture influence society; and its graduates shape the labour market and the demographics of one of Germany’s youngest cities.

Knowledge Transfer

The University of Freiburg views knowledge transfer as a reciprocal exchange and the dissemination of knowledge, from which the university, society and the economy benefit in equal measure. To best meet the complex and varied transfer needs of diverse stakeholders, knowledge transfer at the University of Freiburg encompasses the three areas of technology, knowledge and education transfer.

The Start-up Office

Where knowledge becomes ideas: The University of Freiburg aims to actively shape change in society, the economy and higher education policy – not least through technology transfer, which takes knowledge far beyond the campus.

The Start-up Office, part of the Central Office for Technology Transfer, plays a key role in this.
